The image shows a painting of a group of people in the snow, with a tree in the background. On the right side of the painting is a pillar, and on the left side are several people, some of whom are holding objects in their hands. In the middle of the image is a board with text on it, which appears to be a Russian hunting calendar from 1900.

Khabarovsk turns discarded Christmas trees into zoo animal treats

Khabarovsk’s annual Christmas Tree Recycling campaign is now underway, turning discarded New Year trees into food and enrichment for animals at the V.P. Sysoyev Amur Zoo. Residents can drop off their coniferous trees at designated points across the district until the end of January.

The campaign runs until January 31, with multiple ways for locals to contribute. Trees can be left at any container site or waste storage point in the district until January 30. Those who prefer can also deliver them directly to the zoo by January 31.

Special drop-off containers have been set up by RegStroyKom LLC at various locations in Khabarovsk. This year, INA-DV LLC has also joined the effort, alongside regional operators EcoTechnologies LLC and GreenCity DV. Once collected, the trees are repurposed as both a nutritious snack and a stimulating toy for the zoo’s animals. The initiative helps reduce waste while providing enrichment for the creatures in care.

The campaign offers a simple way for residents to dispose of their holiday trees sustainably. By participating, they support the zoo’s animals and contribute to a greener city. Collection points remain open until the final deadline at the end of January.
