Kazakh Instruments Find a New Stage in Belgium’s Royal Museum
Kazakh national musical instruments have found a new home in Belgium’s Royal Museum of Musical Instruments. The collection now includes traditional pieces like the dombra and sartsyrynay, which will be displayed both physically and online. A special ceremony marked their arrival in Brussels.
The handover took place with a performance by the Qyland Saz ensemble from Kazakhstan’s Almaty region. During the event, the group played traditional Kazakh kuyrty, showcasing the instruments’ distinctive sounds. The donated items will join the museum’s permanent collection, which already holds around 8,000 exhibits.
The addition of Kazakh instruments expands the museum’s diverse holdings. Visitors can now experience these traditional sounds in person or through online resources. The ceremony highlighted the growing international recognition of Kazakhstan’s musical heritage.
