Karlsruhe gives away all its flower bed plants for free this October

The city of Karlsruhe is offering all plants from its central flower beds to residents—for free. Starting in early October, people can take as many as they like from several locations across the city. The move aims to prevent the plants from ending up in the bin after their seasonal display ends.

Work on removing the plants from the beds at Kolpingplatz will begin on October 6 and run until October 13. Once cleared, the flowers will be available for collection at four sites: Kolpingplatz itself, the Zoological Garden, the fairground, and Friedrichsplatz. No payment is required, and there is no limit on how much each person can take.

The giveaway ensures the plants find new homes instead of being discarded. Residents can collect them from multiple spots, including Kolpingplatz once the removal work is complete. Further opportunities to pick up summer varieties will come during the trade fair in late 2025.
