Join Natuurwerkdag Meinweg: Preserve Heathland, Learn & Enjoy Outdoor Day
On October 31, 2023, Staatsbosbeheer and the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature park invite the public to a unique event at the De Meinweg nature reserve. The Natuurwerkdag Meinweg project aims to preserve the area's heathland by removing trees and shrubs, promoting biodiversity, and maintaining its water storage role. Volunteers can work alongside foresters, learn about nature, and enjoy a fun day outdoors.
The event, funded by the Interreg Germany-Netherlands program and co-financed by the EU, is open to all. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, as tools will be provided. The day will conclude with a shared lunch of soup and rolls at 1 pm.
The heathland at De Meinweg is home to various plant and animal species. By removing invasive trees and shrubs, the project helps protect species like the lungwort, nightjar, and common lizard. The Natuurwerkdag Meinweg project is a collaboration between local and regional organizations, with partner organizations supporting the initiative.
