Jean-Baptiste Chandelier’s *Why I Fly* honors his father with breathtaking aerial art

Jean-Baptiste Chandelier has released a deeply personal video titled Why I Fly, a tribute to his late father. The three-minute film blends stunning aerial footage with emotional storytelling. It was published online on November 17 and has already drawn attention for its breathtaking scenes.

Chandelier’s journey with flight began after tragedy. His father, Xavier Chandelier, died in a helicopter crash in the Alps in 1996. Then, in 2003, his mother, Martine Chandelier, passed away suddenly. A year later, he took up paragliding as a way to cope with loss.

The new video features sweeping views of France’s mountain landscapes. Locations include Briançon, the Serre-Chevalier ski resort, and Serre-Ponçon lake. Chandelier not only directed and edited the piece but also performed the acrobatics himself.

Known for his aerial stunts, he has built a following with previous videos that have garnered millions of views. This latest work, however, stands out for its emotional intelligence and connection to his family’s story.

The film serves as both a visual spectacle and a heartfelt homage. It highlights Chandelier’s skill as a pilot and filmmaker while honouring the memory of his parents. The video remains available online for viewers to experience its blend of adventure and reflection.
