IUCN Green List v2.0 Open for Consultation; Congress Honours Conservation Heroes
The IUCN Green List Standard v2.0 is now open for consultation until 30 November 2025. The World Conservation Congress, held in Abu Dhabi, honoured winners in various categories and recognised conservation achievements. The event also highlighted the importance of rangers and addressed historical injustices in conservation.
The Congress recognised conservation heroes, including rangers, for their dedicated efforts in protecting nature. It also addressed historical injustices and colonial legacies in conservation, emphasising the need for change.
Three winners were honoured for their innovative use of technology in conservation. The Tech4Nature Award Ceremony recognised these achievements, but the recipients' names remain undisclosed. The Congress also recognised the success of protected area management authorities, with four natural World Heritage sites removed from the critical list.
Grassroots conservationists shared their experiences with initiatives like BIOPAMA and BESTLIFE2030. These programmes, through partnerships and local leadership, have shown transformative impacts on conservation efforts.
