International Paper Builds $225M Sustainable Packaging Plant in Mississippi

International Paper is investing $225 million in a new sustainable packaging plant in Mississippi. The facility will be built in Brandon and is set to open by late 2027. Existing employees from the company's Richland box plant will move to the new site once complete.

The project will cover 80 acres and span 486,000 square feet. Construction is scheduled to start in June 2026, with full operations beginning in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The new facility aims to cut structural costs while supporting growth in key market areas. Though the exact number of new jobs hasn't been confirmed, the company has stated the project will create employment opportunities. Workers from the Richland plant will transfer to the Brandon location as part of the transition.

The plant will strengthen International Paper's presence in sustainable packaging. Operations are expected to launch by the end of 2027. The move will also consolidate production from the existing Richland site.
