Instructions for Revitalizing a Faded Baseball Cap with Color
In the sweltering heat of Georgia, a baseball hat can have a short shelf life, thanks to sweating, sun exposure, or both. This was the case for Steve, whose favorite hat had faded badly and had weird staining on the brim due to heat and sweat.
Despite trying various methods like dishwasher, enzymes, hand washing, and washing machine, Steve couldn't remove the sweat stains or restore the fading. But all hope was not lost. The hat was saved by using Tulip Color Shot fabric spray.
Tulip Color Shot is a metal can of fabric spray magic that offers even coverage and dries soft. For this tutorial, you'll need Tulip Color Shot (in black for a black hat), painter's tape, a craft knife, and a cover for the work surface.
Start by cleaning the hat. Wash it first to remove any dirt or grime. Once clean, let it dry completely.
Next, cover the baseball cap logo with painter's tape, using a craft knife to trim the tape around the logo for an exact fit. This will protect the logo from the paint.
Now, apply three light layers of Tulip Color Shot fabric spray to the hat, letting it dry for several minutes between each layer. The bottom of the baseball hat bill should also be sprayed.
After the final layer has dried for several hours, remove the painter's tape. The hat should then be hand washed in the sink with a splash of white vinegar and a small amount of laundry detergent in warm/hot water. Rinse until the water runs clear, and ring it out to dry on a towel.
The color from the fabric spray is permanent and has not bled after several days of sweating and washing. Tulip Color Shot fabric spray dries soft but may take a few wears to get it loosened up.
Many people, including both males and females, have a strong attachment to their baseball hats. This tutorial provides a simple and effective solution for those who want to breathe new life into their faded caps. So, grab your Tulip Color Shot and get dyeing!
