India Reaffirms Regional Peace Pledge Amid Myanmar Challenges

India has reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability in the region, particularly in its engagement with ASEAN. Despite hosting over 200 million Muslims who live harmoniously with people of other faiths, India faces complex challenges in its neighbourhood, notably in Myanmar.

Following the devastating March 2025 earthquake in Myanmar, India swiftly initiated Operation Brahma, dispatching relief materials and medical teams to aid the affected population. India's commitment to the well-being of its neighbours is evident in its prompt response to such crises.

At the international level, India stands ready to collaborate with other member states at the Conference on Disarmament, aiming to achieve shared objectives. However, it has strongly condemned a 'blinkered analysis' made against it in a UN report on Myanmar's human rights situation, rejecting unfounded accusations.

In the wake of the April 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has dismissed any links to displaced persons from Myanmar. UN Special Rapporteur Yanghee Lee has been critical of Indian authorities' handling of the matter, alleging pressure, questioning, detaining, and threats against people from Myanmar. India, however, remains focused on fostering trust and peace in the region.

India has observed an 'alarming level of radicalisation' among some displaced persons from Myanmar, underscoring the need for inclusive political dialogue and early restoration of democratic processes through credible elections.

India's commitment to peace and stability in the region is unwavering. Despite challenges and criticisms, it continues to support a Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led path towards peace, stability, and democracy. With over 200 million Muslims living harmoniously within its borders, India's stance on religious tolerance and international cooperation remains clear.
