Importance of Sir John Soane: The Influence and Legacy

On Monday, 10th March, 2025, at 2pm, join us for an enlightening event at Hector Finch's showroom, located at 3rd Floor, Design Centre East, Chelsea Harbour, London SW10 0XE. This special occasion, hosted by Giles Kime, Executive Editor of our platform, will delve into the fascinating connections between Sir John Soane and some of the most influential architects in history.

The discussion will focus on Sir John Soane's contribution to design and its influence in the 21st century. Soane, a pioneer of the Neo-Classical style, was known for his innovative use of light, spatial complexity, and neoclassical principles. His designs, such as the Dulwich Picture Gallery, have left a lasting impact on museum and gallery design worldwide.

This event will bring together a distinguished panel of experts, including Maria Speake, co-founder of Retrouvius, and Will Gompertz, the director of Sir John Soane's Museum. Maria Speake, an influential design practitioner who refurbishes domestic interiors with salvaged materials, met her husband, Adam Hills, while studying architecture in Glasgow. Will Gompertz, a former BBC arts editor, is also the director of Sir John Soane's Museum.

One of the designs on display at Hector Finch's showroom will be the Lincoln Lantern, a collaboration between the lighting studio and the Sir John Soane's Museum. Hector Finch and his wife Emma are known as one of the best-known names in decorative lighting in both the UK and the US. Their work often reflects a deep understanding of classical proportion and spatial hierarchy combined with modern materials and technology, echoing Soane’s spirit of integrating tradition and modernity.

No booking is required for the event. Attendees can simply arrive on the day. For further information, contact Hector Finch at 020-7731 8886 or visit their website at hectorfinch.com/contact. This event is also associated with The Telegraph, Homes & Gardens, and our platform's Decanter Magazine.
