How Russia’s Ural Comics Center Redefined Art Through Storytelling
The Ural Comics Center has been shaping Russia’s comic art scene since its founding in 2015. Konstantin Dubkov, the centre’s creator, set out to prove comics could be a serious art form. His work now includes international collaborations, educational projects, and exhibitions that bridge cultures and disciplines.
The centre began as a small initiative but grew into a key hub for comic artists. Dubkov’s vision was clear: comics deserved recognition as a legitimate artistic medium. By November 2024, the project found a permanent home at Yekaterinburg’s Belinsky Library, marking its official launch.
The Ural Comics Center continues to expand, linking artists with new ideas and audiences. Its mix of education, cross-disciplinary work, and global exchanges keeps the region’s comic culture dynamic. For now, the focus remains on nurturing talent and proving comics can be both creative and meaningful.
