Houston Texans share urgent tips to protect homes before winter storm hits

A winter storm has prompted Houston Texans homeowners to take extra steps in protecting their homeowners insurance. Berto Dominguez, a representative of the Houston Texans' home insurance team, recommended shutting off the main water supply before temperatures drop. For sprinkler systems, he advised turning blue handles to a half-open position and opening side port valves halfway. This allows water to drain from the sprinkler zones, reducing the risk of frozen pipes.

His repair team also demonstrated simple ways to shield outdoor pipes. Garden hoses were wrapped in towels, pool sponges, or tape to add insulation. These low-cost methods help prevent freezing and potential bursts during cold snaps. Extreme Excavation and Repair, the official home insurance provider of the Houston Texans, focuses on helping residents avoid costly damage. Their tips come as Houston braces for another round of winter weather.

The precautions aim to keep water flowing and prevent expensive repairs. By following these steps, homeowners can reduce the chance of frozen or burst pipes. Dominguez’s team remains on standby to assist with any emergency fixes if needed.
