Horw's Winkel District Gets New Master Plan for Historic Charm and Pedestrian-Friendly Spaces
A new master plan has been approved for the heritage-rich Winkel neighborhood in Horw. The local council selected the moderate-intervention variant, balancing political viability and feasibility. The plan aims to enhance the area while preserving its historic character.
The council approved the design concept for Winkel Square on September 25. Key measures include transforming the village center into a shared pedestrian zone with a 20 km/h speed limit. The area around the Three Kings Chapel will be beautified with a wildflower meadow and seating, while the historic Brunnenplätzli meeting point will be restored. The Riedpark will be linked to adjacent green spaces via pathways, offering a natural experience. Parking areas will be relocated closer to the restaurant, creating more space at the arrival point and opening up views toward the lake. The Winkel district is one of the oldest historical settlements in Horw.
