Hitachi Energy's New HQ Sets a Green Standard with Platinum Sustainability

Hitachi Energy Germany has secured a long-term lease for a new 14,840-square-metre headquarters. The building, currently under construction, has already earned Platinum pre-certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Its design focuses on sustainability, blending modern materials with eco-friendly features. The new headquarters will follow a wood-hybrid design, reducing concrete use to just the basement and core structural elements. Reinforced concrete remains limited to essential areas, while the rest relies on renewable materials.

The roof stands out for its recyclable construction, using Ravatherm XPS 300 SL insulation boards. These boards, 140 mm thick, have also been installed in the underground parking garage. Ravago, the manufacturer, is working with the FPX Association to develop ways of reusing waste from XPS products. Energy efficiency plays a key role in the project. Photovoltaic panels will cover the rooftop terrace and eaves, generating clean power on-site. The building also meets the KfW's strict 'QNG premium' sustainability standard, ensuring high environmental performance. Green spaces will feature prominently, including a rooftop garden and a landscaped inner courtyard. Construction is progressing on the second section of the headquarters, which connects to the first via a shared basement and underground parking area.

The project combines sustainable materials, energy generation, and green design. Once complete, the headquarters will serve as a long-term base for Hitachi Energy Germany. Its Platinum pre-certification reflects the company's commitment to high environmental standards in construction.
