Historic King's Arms Reopens as Luxury Connoisseur Club After £1.6M Makeover
The historic King's Arms in Knowle has undergone a stunning £1.6m makeover to become the first of a newly developed concept for the Premium Country Pubs brand, with an interior inspired by the exclusivity of members' clubs.
This refined new look for the brand, owned by Mitchells & Butlers, was created by JMDA Ltd, with The King's Arms as its flagship.
JMDA's Alexandra Mason, who designed the concept, said: "We have a long-standing relationship with Mitchells & Butlers and their Premium Country Pubs brand. Having developed the concept and look of their pubs across the country in the past, we were approached by them last year to propose the next level development of their most exclusive 'Mandarin' concept pubs, which we originally designed.
"The original concept for this brand was bold, punchy, and offered something different to the standard local pub. Premium Country Pubs have always been modelled around the idea of their customers' own homes, offering a space which customers aspire to owning, complete with the type of design elements and fixtures that they might desire. We kept this original idea in mind and visited numerous exclusive locations across the country, looking for inspiration."
The new concept is based on the idea of a private members' club, complete with its associated class, exclusivity and aspirations.
Stand out elements that define this new interior concept include fixed seating, collectors' bookshelves, feature screening, 'quirky' nooks enclosed with curtains, and feature artwork, providing something special for every visitor within the type of interior that they might aspire to.The design concept is based around a cluster of defined spaces including: The Curator Space - which has been opulently designed for the art enthusiast and collectors, a perfect place for an intimate dinner or celebration. The Great Room is inspired by decadent country house events spaces and is an area full of natural light during the day, complimented by sympathetically decorated original features and reeded glass screens to add character, definition, and privacy.
The bar has been renamed 'The Connoisseur Club' - where guests can enjoy tasting a selection of fine wines, spirits and champagne as they enter. This space is a real focal point, with areas designed for impromptu catchups, late nights and casual dinners.
As well as the pub undergoing a full refurbishment, the venue's 12 bedrooms also underwent a makeover, offering a relaxing stay alongside the King's Arms' extensive food and beverage offering.
The project began on 17th Oct 22 and was completed on 18th Nov 22
Alexandra Mason commented: "The project has been very well received by the clients, who were involved in the concept development, and were pleased to see their vision come to life, creating a stunning new look for their brand. We look forward to bringing the new Premium Country Pubs concept to sites across the country over the next few months!
"This is a very important project for us. Premium Country Pubs are one of our longest standing clients, and we're proud to still be the developers of their brand, and to continue delivering originality and authenticity through our work."
