Historic Chalet Le Sarto Reborn as Megève’s Timeless Mountain Retreat

Chalet Le Sarto, a historic mountain retreat in Megève, has been meticulously restored by Studio Claves. Originally designed by Henry Jacques Le Même between 1941 and 1943, the chalet now harmoniously blends its classic charm with modern comforts. The renovation respects the building’s heritage while introducing contemporary touches.

The chalet resides on Montée du Calvaire, offering panoramic views of Megève’s town centre. Its eight guest rooms can accommodate up to 15 guests, and the terrace provides a breathtaking outlook over the sunlit valley below. Inside, the rooms exude warmth and welcome, staying true to Le Même’s vision of elegant yet practical living.

Studio Claves preserved the chalet’s original features, such as the façade, wooden staircase, and period furniture. They also added new luxuries, including a fitness room and both indoor and outdoor pools. The design team drew inspiration from Le Même’s geometric patterns, creating custom tiles for different areas of the property. The colour scheme reflects Le Mesmo’s signature style, combining bold reds and greens with rich dark wood. Artworks by contemporary artists now enrich the interiors, from a fresco in the library to ceramic pieces in the master bathroom. Charlotte Alix de Rothschild, who influenced the chalet’s initial 1940s designs, inspired many of these creative choices.

The renovation of Chalet Le Sarto preserves its historic character while updating it for modern living. The blend of original architecture, bespoke details, and artistic additions ensures the property remains a standout retreat in Megève. Guests can now enjoy both its timeless elegance and contemporary amenities.
