Heartwarming baby shower honors military moms-to-be with community love
On 26 February, the Prudential Lounge hosted a special baby shower for military moms-to-be. The event, organised by Operation Shower, brought together 20 expectant mothers from the armed forces. Unlike typical gatherings, this one featured themed decorations, gifts, and support from the New Jersey Devils' community.
The celebration was a collaboration between the Devils' wives and girlfriends, the Devils Youth Foundation, and Verizon. Colorful balloon arches lined the venue, while tables displayed banners like 'DREAM BIG' and 'BORN WILD'. One table, guarded by baby animal figurines, held a cake, while another offered presents for the guests.
The day included catered lunch, inspirational talks, and traditional shower games. Each mother received a 'Shower-In-A-Box' filled with gifts for both baby and parent. Lisa Farley, an Air Force veteran, attended to share her experiences and show solidarity with the expectant moms. Operation Shower, which has supported over 10,000 military families since 2007, led the event. Shannon Allen, a former participant in the program, first proposed bringing Operation Shower events to the Devils organisation. The Devils Youth Foundation backed the initiative as part of its ongoing mission to assist new mothers and families.
The baby shower provided gifts, encouragement, and a sense of community for military moms-to-be. Operation Shower's work continues to expand, offering care packages and events nationwide. For these 20 women, the day marked both a celebration and a reminder of the support available to them.
