Hamburg's Friedrichs Vier brings 47 eco-friendly homes to Poppenbüttel
A new housing development called Friedrichs Vier is taking shape in Hamburg's Poppenbüttel district. The project, which broke ground on 20 March 2026, will bring 47 modern apartments to the area after nearly a decade of planning. Designed around a shared courtyard, the four-building complex promises a mix of private condominiums and subsidized rentals in a leafy, well-connected location. The development sits next to Randelpark and close to the Alster hiking trail, offering residents a quiet, green environment with easy city access. Inside, the apartments will include floor-to-ceiling windows, solid hardwood floors, and underfloor heating. Energy efficiency is a key feature, with the buildings meeting the Efficiency House 55 standard.
Friedrichs Vier will consist of 30 privately owned condominiums and 17 publicly subsidized rental units, ranging from two to five rooms. An underground garage with 58 spaces will also be built as part of the project. Despite the variety of options, only two apartments remain available for sale or rent out of the total 47. Planning for the site began in 2017, but construction only started nine years later. The long-awaited development aims to blend modern living with sustainability in one of Hamburg's sought-after neighbourhoods.
Once completed, Friedrichs Vier will add 47 energy-efficient homes to Poppenbüttel. The mix of private and subsidized housing, along with its park-side location, addresses both demand for quality living spaces and environmental standards. The project's underground parking and green surroundings further enhance its appeal.
