Halle's Südpromenade playground to transform with €460K dragon-themed upgrade by 2027
The Südpromenade playground in Halle (Saale) is getting a major upgrade. The city council has approved a €460,000 renovation project set to finish by August 2027. No public debates or objections to the plan have been recorded in local sources. The current playground suffers from decaying concrete walls and outdated equipment. Some structures have already been removed due to wear and tear. The renovation will replace these with a fresh, modern design centred around a three-part dragon sculpture.
The new space will split into two zones. Younger children, aged zero to six, will get a nest swing, a seesaw, and a sand digger. An archaeological 'dig pit' hidden beneath a dragon illustration will also be added. Older children, aged six to twelve, will have a climbing structure made from black locust wood, integrated into the existing boulder landscape.
Accessibility will improve with new benches, natural stone seating, and better drainage for surface water. The project will keep the site's existing trees and add three climate-resilient ones. The goal is to create a vibrant, mythical-themed play area for families. Work on the Südpromenade playground will wrap up by late summer 2027. The renovated space will feature modern equipment, better accessibility, and a striking dragon centrepiece. The €460,000 investment aims to provide a safer, more engaging environment for children of all ages.
