Haddonfield’s New Exhibit Blends Historic and Modern Architecture in One Space
A new architecture exhibit has opened in Haddonfield’s historic district. Titled Space, Materiality and Light: The Art of Architecture, it showcases the work of two local architects with contrasting yet complementary styles. The display runs through next spring and invites visitors to explore how classic and modern design can coexist.
The exhibit is set along the Artwalk on Mechanic Street, organised by the Haddonfield Outdoor Trust. It features three display boards from each architect—Thomas B. Wagner, known for his work in historic architecture, and Jay Reinert, who favours contemporary designs. Their projects highlight themes of space, materiality, and light, demonstrating how these elements shape buildings in South Jersey.
Joseph Sikora, president of the Haddonfield Outdoor Trust, curated the exhibit alongside Wagner and Reinert. The opening included a discussion on the future of architecture in the town, with both architects sharing their approaches. Wagner and Reinert are recognised for listening closely to clients and weaving their designs into Haddonfield’s existing architectural fabric. The goal of the exhibit is to spark conversation about balancing tradition with innovation. By presenting their work side by side, the display encourages viewers to consider how historic spaces can adapt to modern needs without losing character.
The exhibit remains open until spring, offering a chance to see how two distinct architectural visions interact. Wagner’s historic sensibilities and Reinert’s modern touch come together in a display that reflects Haddonfield’s evolving identity.
