"Gütersloh Town Hall's Art Exhibition: 'European Art' Showcase"
In the heart of Gütersloh, Germany, the city hall forum played host to the grand opening of the "Art of Europe" exhibition on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025. This free-to-attend event, organised by the C-City cultural network, brings together contemporary works from artists hailing from Gütersloh's partner cities—Broxtowe (UK), Châteauroux (FR), Falun (SE), and Grudziądz (PL).
The exhibition, which runs from September to the end of October, is open during the city hall's opening hours, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 12 pm, as well as during events at the city hall and by appointment. The works on display range from photography to intricate prints, inviting viewers to shift perspectives and see how art can bridge European unity.
Toby Anderton's work, "Europe together," a schematic map of Europe with adjacent countries, is a clear statement of the artist's support for Europe. Lesley Grand-Scrutton, photographer, Jane Shipton, artist and Parkinson's activist, and Toby Anderton, illustrator and designer, are among the artists representing England in the exhibition.
Swedish artist Nina Edling, known for her intricate woodcut and linocut works, and Polish street artist SOMEART, with his distinctive comic-like style, were also in attendance at the vernissage.
The French photographer Bruno Dewaele contributes to the exhibition with works that take viewers on a visual treasure hunt through Europe. The Ensemble Vinorosso provided music for the exhibition opening, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The "Art of Europe" exhibition is part of the city's anniversary celebrations, "200 years of Gütersloh." This cultural event aims to symbolise culture as a bridge for European unity, bringing together artists and audiences from various European nations in a shared celebration of creativity and diversity.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the works on display, engage with the artists, and experience the rich cultural tapestry that the "Art of Europe" exhibition offers. The exhibition is a testament to the power of art in fostering understanding and unity among people, a timely reminder in these challenging times.
