Greifswald's Jugendlounge Offers Teens Safe Space & Mayor's Ear

The Jugendlounge in Greifswald, a popular hangout for teens aged 12 to 17, offers more than just a meeting place. It hosts regular open youth work sessions and consultation hours, including one led by the city's Mayor, Stefan Fassbinder.

The Jugendlounge, located at the Schönwalde-Center, is open every second Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with extended hours during the fall and winter. On these days, young people can find free and confidential counseling on issues like cyberbullying, sextortion, and hate speech, courtesy of the evangelical Altstädter communities' youth work team. This dedicated group, led by Pfarrer Wolfgang Arvay and his colleagues Alex Arhire, Cristina Arvay, and Sarah Bortmes, ensures that support is always at hand.

In addition to these regular sessions, Mayor Stefan Fassbinder will hold a children and youth consultation hour on October 7th at 5:00 PM. He will be joined by members of the Children and Youth Council and the city's Children's Officer, Kassandra Engel. This event provides another opportunity for young people to voice their concerns and ideas.

The Jugendlounge, supervised by street social workers of the International Bund (IB), is more than just a place to socialize. It offers a safe space for young people to seek guidance and express themselves, with regular open youth work sessions and consultation hours led by both community leaders and city officials.
