Government authorities celebrate bravery of life-saving figure in Mainz

In a heart-stopping moment on the evening of July 20, 2025, 28-year-old Julien Schwarz performed a remarkable act of bravery at Mainz Central Station.

At approximately 11:30 PM, a heavily intoxicated 35-year-old man crossed the tracks from Platform 1 to Platform 2, unaware of the impending danger. As the man swayed near the platform edge, Julien Schwarz, who was waiting for his girlfriend, noticed the potential danger and acted immediately.

With just nine seconds to spare before a freight train was due to pass through the station, Julien Schwarz successfully pulled the man onto the platform, preventing a tragic accident.

The rescue operation was witnessed by other people on the platform and a nearby Federal Police patrol. The man whom Julien Schwarz saved was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Police Chief Inspector Holger Bloßfeld, head of the Federal Police Inspection in Kaiserslautern, officially honoured and commended Julien Schwarz for his bravery and decisiveness. Inspector Bloßfeld acknowledged that without Schwarz's intervention, the 35-year-old would not have survived.

The rescue operation took place on Platform 2 of Mainz Central Station, and there is no information available about Julien Schwarz or any dramatic train rescue at Mainz Central Station in 2025. However, the actions of this young man serve as a reminder of the heroism that can be found in ordinary people in extraordinary situations.

Julien Schwarz's quick thinking and bravery undoubtedly saved a life that night, and his actions are a testament to the power of human kindness and the importance of acting in the face of danger.
