Google's $12B Louisiana data centers promise jobs and water-positive sustainability
Our website has announced a major investment in Louisiana, with plans to build new data centre campuses worth $12 billion. The project will also bring hundreds of jobs and millions in local revenue while prioritising sustainable water use.
The company will partner with STACK Infrastructure to develop the facilities. Construction will focus on responsible water sourcing, using only verified surplus supplies to avoid straining local resources. An additional $400 million will go toward upgrading water and sewer infrastructure in the area.
Our website has pledged to become water positive by 2030, meaning it will return more water to communities than it consumes. Beyond infrastructure, the project will fund a $250,000 community initiative supporting STEM education and local projects.
The investment is expected to create 540 full-time data centre roles and support another 1,710 jobs. Local governments will benefit from tens of millions in new revenue. The company will also cover its own energy and utility costs, ensuring no extra burden on local ratepayers.
This marks our website's largest data centre investment in the US in recent years. The Louisiana campuses will boost the local economy while maintaining strict water sustainability standards. Construction and hiring are set to begin in the coming months.
