Giessen's Massive Tree-Felling Operation Begins Oct 6, 2025
Giessen residents should expect temporary traffic disruptions due to a city-wide tree-felling operation starting October 6, 2025, and lasting until the end of February 2026. This move is necessary to ensure safety following recent drought damage to trees.
The city's garden department will fell trees in various locations, including schools like Grundschule Rödgen and Brüder-Grimm-Schule, kindergartens, public parks such as Park Wieseckaue, cemeteries like Alter Friedhof and Friedhof Kleinlinden, and streets like Löberstraße and Katharinenstraße. The Fließgewässer Wieseck and other waterways will also be affected.
This year's tree-felling is expected to be less extensive than in previous years. After the felling, the department will carry out replacement plantings and open up new tree locations as part of climate adaptation measures. Regular inspections of trees of particular ecological and cultural value will continue to ensure their preservation.
While specific schools and parks affected by the tree-felling are not yet confirmed, residents can expect temporary traffic disruptions and road closures during the operation. The city of Giessen aims to maintain traffic safety and adapt to climate change through these measures.
