Ghana Launches Three New Cooperative Mining Projects by February's End
Three new cooperative mining projects will launch in Ghana before the end of February. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah-Buah, will lead the inauguration ceremony. Local communities and traditional leaders have already expressed strong support for the initiative.
The projects aim to boost employment for young people while cutting down on illegal mining. Officials have been preparing the sites and registering members to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The upcoming projects include the Nkaseim Cooperative Mining Project in Asutifi South District and the Abompe and Kokotia Cooperative Mining Project in Obuasi West District. Additional sites will operate in Nzema East Municipality and Atronsu in the Western North Region.
Representatives from the Minerals Commission and the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) have visited the locations. Their inspections focused on safety measures and environmental compliance before operations begin.
The inauguration event will bring together traditional authorities, community members, and key figures from the mining sector. Organisers have been working to finalise arrangements, ensuring all necessary steps are in place for a successful launch.
Local residents and leaders have praised the initiative as a much-needed step toward structured mining. They believe it will improve livelihoods and encourage responsible practices in the region.
The cooperative mining projects will provide sustainable jobs and help reduce unregulated mining activities. With the official launch set for late February, the initiative marks a significant move toward formalising small-scale mining in Ghana. Communities involved are now preparing for the economic and social benefits expected to follow.
