Germany’s Winter Glows With Months of Stunning Light Festivals
Germany’s winter months are brightening up with a wave of light festivals. From late autumn through early spring, cities and parks across the country will glow with elaborate illuminations. These events draw visitors eager to explore dazzling displays in gardens, parks, and coastal towns.
One of the earliest festivals, Lichterwelten Bad Mergentheim, begins on November 7 near Würzburg and runs until March 28. Not far behind, Serengeti Park Light Festival near Bremen opens on November 8, continuing until March 1. Meanwhile, Christmas Garden transforms gardens and parks in multiple cities into glowing landscapes from November 13 to January 11.
Many of these festivals last for months, offering visitors plenty of time to experience the displays. With events spread across Germany, from the Baltic Sea to southern Bavaria, the illuminations provide a bright contrast to the darker winter season. Organisers expect strong attendance as the festivals become a seasonal tradition.
