Packhaus in Tönning shines as giant Advent calendar - Germany’s Record-Breaking Advent Calendar Lights Up a Historic Port Town

A historic building in Tönning, North Frisia, has once again become the centre of festive attention. The Packhaus, stretching 77.5 metres, holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s longest Advent calendar. This year, its driftwood sculptures and daily window reveals are drawing visitors from across the region.

The Packhaus first gained prominence as a vital trade hub along the Eider Canal. But after the Kiel Canal opened in 1895, its role in commerce faded. Today, it serves a different purpose—celebrating the holiday season in grand style.

The Packhaus continues to attract visitors with its record-breaking Advent calendar and seasonal events. The combination of historic charm and creative displays ensures its place as a holiday tradition in North Frisia. This year’s driftwood sculptures and artisan market further highlight its role in the community.
