Beach Chair Season Starts - First Chairs Are Being Set Up - Germany's Coastal Resorts Roll Out Thousands of Beach Chairs for 2024 Season

Beach chair season has officially begun along Germany's North and Baltic Sea coasts. Resorts in Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony are rolling out thousands of chairs, with some areas offering free use for early visitors.

In St. Peter-Ording, the first chairs have already appeared on the North Sea beach. Until the end of March, they will remain free to use. Nearby, on Sylt, chairs are now in place along Westerland's promenade, with more expected on the sand by Easter.

Büsum will start placing chairs on paved areas from March 27, while the rest of its beach setup begins April 13. Wangerland plans to move its chairs to the shore between early and mid-April, with rentals opening on April 15. Along Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic coast, setups start on April 1, adding to the roughly 10,000 chairs across the region. Zingst has already positioned 30 chairs on its beach, free to use until April 30. Meanwhile, Norddeich in East Frisia will introduce six new children's beach chairs for the first time this year. Online bookings for the 2026 season have surged, with nearly 10,000 reservations already made.

The gradual rollout of beach chairs marks the start of the coastal season. Free early access in some towns gives visitors a chance to enjoy the shore before official rentals begin. With online bookings rising, demand for seaside relaxation remains strong.
