Gerhard Richter Supports Homeless - Gerhard Richter Supports Homeless
World-renowned artist Gerhard Richter is donating hand-signed prints to support homeless charities this Christmas. The auction of five limited-edition works, based on his 1982 painting The Candle, will raise funds for urgent aid and a new shelter. Richter, who turns 94 in February, remains one of the most valuable living artists globally.
The prints up for auction are derived from Richter’s 1982 oil painting Das Leuchter (The Candle). Each piece is hand-signed, adding to its exclusivity. In 2023, a similar candle-themed print by the artist sold for €99,000, highlighting strong demand for his work.
All proceeds from the sale will go to *Art Gives Help*, an organisation aiding the homeless. The funds will cover essentials like food, clothing, and sleeping bags. Additionally, the money will help build a new shelter housing 35 women and eight young people. The auction forms part of Neumeister’s *YES, WE SCHELL!* sale, running from November 12–24, 2025. The event features items from the estate of actress Maria Schell. While the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed, the focus stays on the charity’s mission to expand support for those without homes.
The auction’s success will directly fund a shelter and critical supplies for vulnerable groups. Richter’s contribution comes at a key time, as winter increases demand for housing and warmth. The project aims to provide stable accommodation for dozens of people in need by early next year.
