Friedrichshafen's Weilerholz forest grows with new tree-planting initiative
A new tree-planting initiative has taken root in Friedrichshafen's Weilerholz area. The project, led by the Rotary Club of Friedrichshafen, aims to boost the forest's resilience and biodiversity. Dozens of volunteers and city officials gathered to plant young trees as part of the ongoing Future Forest Friedrichshafen campaign. The latest planting effort began in mid-March, marking another phase in the Rotary Club's long-standing partnership with the city. Under the guidance of city forester Karin Beer, members worked alongside local representatives to expand the forest's green cover. The Weilerholz area, linked to the popular Ailingen Panorama Trail, is set to evolve into an educational nature trail with an arboretum in the future.
City forester Karin Beer commended the Rotary Club's dedication, noting the hands-on involvement of its members. Adam Rosol, head of Urban Planning and the Environment, also acknowledged the club's sustained contributions to reforestation. The city administration expressed gratitude for the collaboration, which has supported the municipal forest's sustainable growth for years. The initiative forms part of *Future Forest Friedrichshafen*, a broader project focused on climate adaptation and ecological health. While exact numbers of tree species planted remain unspecified, the effort prioritises climate-resilient varieties to secure the forest's long-term survival.
The planting event strengthens Friedrichshafen's commitment to environmental sustainability. The Weilerholz area will eventually feature an educational trail, offering public access to its diverse flora. For now, the newly planted trees mark another step toward a more resilient and biodiverse forest.
