Freiburg awards 18 residencies for artistic research
Fribourg has chosen 18 artistic projects for its 2026 research residencies. The programme supports creative work across literature, music, visual arts, and other disciplines. A total of 51 applications were submitted, with 48 meeting the selection criteria.
The city’s initiative aims to fund the entire creative process, from early research to final production. Selected artists will receive fair pay, including wages and social contributions, for their work.
Each residency will run between 10 and 30 days. The projects span a wide range of fields, such as audiovisual media, performing arts, and interdisciplinary research. Multiple local venues and institutions will host the residencies. These include the University of Fribourg, Le Bilboquet, Bruit Rose, the Domaine de la Bourgeoisie in Riex (Lavaux), and L'Atelier. The programme highlights the city’s commitment to fostering artistic experimentation and development.
The 18 chosen projects will take place in 2026. Artists will have access to dedicated workspaces and financial support throughout their residencies. The scheme reinforces Fribourg’s role in nurturing diverse creative research.
