Freiburg Approves Seven Official Swimming Lakes for 2026 Season
Freiburg im Breisgau has finalised its list of official bathing sites for 2026. Seven lakes within the city will be designated as safe swimming spots under the latest bathing waters ordinance. Residents now have the chance to share their views on the chosen locations.
The seven approved lakes include Flückigersee, Tunisee, Silbersee, Moosweiher, kleiner Opfinger Baggersee, großer Opfinger See, and Dietenbachsee. Each site meets the criteria set by the city's bathing waters regulations. Authorities have not disclosed whether any of these were newly added or previously unclassified.
The local health department will carry out regular water quality checks throughout the season. Tests will screen for intestinal bacteria, pollutants, waste, tar residues, and harmful algae blooms. These measures ensure the lakes comply with strict EU safety standards.
Residents can submit feedback, suggestions, or complaints about the bathing sites until February 28, 2026. The city encourages public input to help maintain and improve the designated swimming areas.
The selected lakes will remain under close supervision to guarantee safe swimming conditions. With EU-compliant testing in place, the city aims to provide clean and well-maintained bathing spots for the public. Feedback from residents will be reviewed before the final arrangements are confirmed.
