Free Christmas taxi rides roll out in Lower Austria’s rural regions
A local on-demand taxi service is offering free rides just before Christmas. From December 22 to 24, passengers in parts of Lower Austria can travel without paying. The initiative comes from leoPOLDI, a shared transport scheme run by NOÖVOG.
The free service covers western Mostviertel and nearby regions, including Maria Anzbach, Ebreichsdorf, Tulln, and the Korneuburg district. In Tulln, the taxis operate as 'LISA Tulln,' while in Korneuburg, they are known as 'Bezirk Korneuburg mobil.' Riders can book trips through the poldi app or by phone, with a simple 'Pay the driver' option—though no payment will be needed during the promotion.
NOÖVOG’s managing directors, Michael Hasenöhrl and Wolfgang Schroll, described the offer as a thank-you to partners and local officials. Mag. Gerald Wolf, who co-leads the company with Hasenöhrl and Schroll, supports the scheme as part of a broader push for sustainable transport. On-demand shared taxis are designed to fill gaps in rural areas where buses and trains run less frequently. The free rides aim to ease travel during the busy pre-Christmas period. Organisers hope the service will reduce stress and encourage more people to use eco-friendly transport options.
The promotion runs for three days, ending on December 24. Passengers in the covered areas can use the taxis without charge by booking through the usual channels. NOÖVOG has framed the initiative as both a seasonal gift and a test of demand for shared mobility solutions.
