Fort Collins Hosts a Human Library to Explore Identity and Belonging
A Human Library event will be held at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Running from 2 to 5 p.m., the free gathering encourages open conversations about identity, prejudice, and community life in Northern Colorado. Organisers have set this year’s theme as Being Me in Fort Collins to explore personal stories of belonging.
The event invites participants, called Readers, to engage in one-on-one discussions with Human Books—people who share their lived experiences. Each Reader can check out up to four Human Books during the three-hour session. The initiative aims to create a safe space for conversations that challenge stigma and misunderstanding.
The concept began in Copenhagen, where Ronni Abergel and his team developed it to combat prejudice through dialogue. Since then, the Human Library has grown into a global movement, supported by the Copenhagen-based Human Library Organisation. This year’s Fort Collins event is presented in partnership with the City of Fort Collins, Poudre Libraries, and the Yarrow Collective. Registration is required, and while the event is open to all ages, children under 18 must attend with an adult caregiver.
The Human Library offers a chance for residents to connect through personal stories and shared experiences. The February 22 event will focus on themes of identity and belonging in the local community. Those interested can secure their spot by signing up in advance.
