The 1998 Bailey Caravan, currently undergoing an upgrade, is facing a few challenges with its water system and washroom. The caravan's water system is being upgraded, but more parts are needed, particularly for the microswitch-controlled plumbing system in the washroom.

The washroom, in its current state, is far from ideal. The sink is a faded yellow, the shower tray is split, and the entire washroom is grotty. The hand-operated brake, although new, requires significant physical effort to pull, which over time can result in the lever being pulled out of alignment.

One of the immediate issues faced was a damaged tap, causing a halt in the plumbing work. Fortunately, a replacement washroom mixer tap will cost around £120. Another problem was the open hot water heater drain tap, causing water to be pumped into the heater and out onto the ground.

The caravan's previous owner had rarely used the water system, using it as a "tin tent" instead. This lack of use has led to some issues, such as the reluctance of the handbrake to stay engaged, a problem when setting up on a sloping pitch.

To address these issues, it is recommended to inspect all pipes, joints, and fittings for leaks and replace damaged components. Flushing and cleaning pipes and taps can clear blockages or mineral buildup. Servicing or replacing water pumps can restore proper pressure, while repairing or replacing faulty taps and valves can stop drips and ensure sealing.

Regular maintenance is key to preventing common issues. For a 1998 Bailey Caravan, it is recommended to consult the caravan owner’s manual or a qualified caravan technician experienced with Bailey models to diagnose specific water system problems and carry out repairs safely and effectively.

Other parts that need attention include the external inlet panel, which is not in good condition, and the jockey wheel, a nasty, narrow little thing that digs into soft ground at every opportunity. A pair of plastic tabs, which hold the submersible pump snugly against the water inlet, were ordered for £4.

The plumbing issue in the caravan is part of a bigger problem - the washroom being in poor condition. The broken washroom mixer tap, although replaced, does not solve the overall problem. A wrench was fashioned to remove the water filter from the housing, but more work is needed to fully renovate the washroom.

In conclusion, the 1998 Bailey Caravan, despite its issues, is undergoing necessary upgrades and renovations. With the right parts, expertise, and regular maintenance, it can be restored to a functional and comfortable state for its new owner.

The washroom renovation, in addition to the caravan's water system upgrade, is essential to improve the overall lifestyle experience within the home-and-garden setting of the caravan. The broken washroom mixer tap, although replaced, and the obtained plastic tabs for the submersible pump are just small steps towards achieving a fully renovated and functional washroom.
