First M. F. Husain Museum to Open in Doha Next Month

A new museum dedicated to renowned Indian artist M. F. Husain will open in Doha, Qatar next month. The 32,300-square-foot museum, Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, is operated by the Qatar Foundation and will be located in Doha's Education City.

The museum's design is based on a 2008 sketch by Husain himself, bringing his vision to life. It will house a permanent collection of his works in various mediums, providing an overview of his career from his rise in the 1950s until his death in 2011.

Husain was a founding member of the Bombay Progressive Artists Group in 1947, marking the beginning of his influential career. His work has been featured in major international exhibitions and retrospectives, reflecting his significant impact on the art world.

The museum will also showcase a series of paintings about Arab civilization commissioned by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. One of Husain's final works, Seeroo fi al ardh (2009), will have its own dedicated gallery, offering visitors a glimpse into his later artistic style.

The M. F. Husain Museum in Doha was supported by Sheikh Hassan bin Mohamed bin Ali Al Thani and will be the first museum dedicated solely to the artist. It promises to be a significant cultural addition to Doha, celebrating Husain's remarkable legacy and contribution to art.
