Fikri Anıl Altıntaş redefines masculinity in debut novel reading

Fikri Anıl Altıntaş will read from his debut novel A Pear Tree Grows in the Morning on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 5:00 PM. The event takes place at PORT25 – Space for Contemporary Art in Mannheim, with Adrian Bohn moderating the discussion. Altıntaş, a political educator and writer, has drawn attention for his honest exploration of identity, family, and masculinity.

Altıntaş grew up in a small Hessian town, caught between the desire to belong as 'German' and the reality of being a Turkish-Muslim man. These tensions shape his writing, which examines masculinity with tenderness rather than clichés. His debut novel, published in 2023, centres on his family, particularly his father, and the search for a more open definition of manhood.

Altıntaş’s novel challenges traditional ideas of masculinity, offering a personal perspective on identity and belonging. The reading at PORT25 will highlight his literary and activist work, while the ARD documentary later in October 2025 will bring his insights to a broader audience. His writing and advocacy continue to spark conversations about gender, culture, and change.
