Fiberdays 2026 spotlights open access and fibre-optic innovation in Frankfurt
Fiberdays 2026 took place this week at Messe Frankfurt, marking the 15th year of the trade fair. Organised by the BREKO industry association, the event drew major players in fibre-optic infrastructure, including Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and 1&1 Versatel. The venue's improved transport links, such as the U4 subway and ICE train station, made attendance easier than ever for visitors. The two-day event ran in Exhibition Hall 3.1, focusing heavily on open access—a system that connects different network operators and allows customers to switch providers smoothly. Deutsche Telekom set up two separate booths: one for MagentaTV and another for its wholesale and partnerships division. Meanwhile, 1&1 Versatel showcased its business-only fibre network, built largely with in-house infrastructure.
Joint ventures like **Our Green Fiber (UGG)**, backed by Telefónica Germany and Allianz Insurance, and **OXG**, a collaboration between Vodafone and France's Altice, highlighted their fibre network projects. FRITZ! (formerly AVM) also attended, emphasising the importance of major trade shows for industry visibility. Technical discussions included innovations like continuous 3D documentation, which helps streamline troubleshooting during fibre-optic construction.
Fiberdays 2026 reinforced Frankfurt's role as a key hub for fibre-optic development. The event's focus on open access and new technologies reflected the industry's push for better connectivity and efficiency. With strong attendance and expanded transport links, the fair solidified its position as a leading platform for networking and innovation.
