European monarch mirrors Duchess of Cambridge's pathway
Queen Mary and Kate Middleton Embrace Nature Conservation
Queen Mary of Denmark and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, have shown a shared passion for nature conservation and sustainability. In a recent development, Queen Mary has embarked on a new project focusing on biodiversity and the beauty of wild gardens.
During an interview before the broadcast of Søren Vester's Garden - Biodiversity and Castle Gardens on Denmark's DR1, Queen Mary expressed her joy after planting the wild garden at Fredensborg. She described it as "wild beautiful." The project, which supports biodiversity, draws comparisons to Kate Middleton's efforts in promoting nature and wild gardens.
Queen Mary's initiative is part of her ongoing commitment to climate action, sustainable practices, and conservation. She and King Frederik X focus particularly on education and youth engagement to nurture civic responsibility and sustainability awareness among young Danes.
Kate Middleton, too, has long expressed her love for nature. Recently, she released a summer video promoting outdoor living and children's engagement with green spaces. The video, while not providing new information about its impact, emphasized the importance of fostering a connection with nature from a young age.
Parallel to Queen Mary's efforts in Denmark, Kate Middleton's philanthropic work extends globally. Through the Royal Foundation’s environmental initiatives, she champions biodiversity and operates the Earthshot Prize, which awards funding to projects aimed at restoring and protecting nature, enhancing air quality, reviving oceans, promoting waste-free living, and supporting climate action.
Both monarchs use their public platforms to celebrate tradition while championing the natural world. Their initiatives reflect the symbolic and practical role royals play in nature stewardship, inspiring many to follow suit in their commitment to sustainability and conservation.
