Ebertal's New Neighborhood Square Wins with Bold Green Design and Red Ribbon Play Zone
A new neighbourhood square is coming to Ebertal as part of the Grüne Mitte Ebertal urban renewal project. The winning design was chosen in a landscape architecture competition, with Düsseldorf-based studio grüngrau taking first place. The square will stretch between Am Steinsgraben street and Lönsweg, offering a mix of active and quiet spaces.
The competition wrapped up on February 25, with a jury of experts selecting the top entries. Studio grüngrau's design stood out for its clear division of spaces, abundant greenery, and climate-friendly features. A distinctive red ribbon will run through the area, hosting swings, loungers, and picnic tables.
Second place went to RB+P Landscape Architecture from Kassel. Third place was shared by hutterreimann landscape architecture from Berlin and Querfeldeins from Dresden. The winning proposal will be displayed in Ebertal from March 23 to 27. After that, all submissions will go on show at the New City Hall from April 7 to 17. The project will also shape the planning of nearby construction sites and the redesign of Am Steinsgraben street. More details on the four winning designs and the neighbourhood square can be found at goe.de/ebertal-quartiersplatz.
The square is set to become a central public space in Ebertal. Its development will play a key role in the wider transformation of the area. The design focuses on usability, greenery, and climate resilience.
