Düsseldorf, the vibrant city located on the Rhine, is set to host the Blooming District 2025 competition, a cherished tradition for the Greens of District 1. This competition, initiated by Bernadette Niehaus, political business leader of the GREENS Düsseldorf, aims to honour gardens, tree wells, and balconies that are most welcoming to insects, promoting greater biodiversity and contributing to climate protection.

The competition is open to citizens in Golzheim, Derendorf, Pempelfort, the old town, Carlstadt, or the city centre who have a garden or balcony in District 1. Those without their own green space can still participate by nominating attractive gardens in the neighbourhood.

The competition runs until July 15, 2025, and participants can look forward to three categories: garden, balcony, and tree well. Sponsorship of a tree is recommended for the tree well category.

The jury for the competition includes District Mayor Annette Klinke, Tobias Krause, Björn Korff, Christoph Linke, and spokespeople of the local group 1 of the GREENS in Düsseldorf. Clara Gerlach, the Mayor of Düsseldorf, is the patron of the competition.

The awards ceremony will take place on August 2, 2025, at 3 pm. Winners will be notified by email. Prizes include gift certificates from Bäcker Schüren, Blüten & Meer, and Die Kaffee, and the grand prize is 2 tickets each for the IDO Festival by Dr. Frederike Moeller.
