Large Garden with New Sculpture Depot - Dresden’s New Sculpture Repository Safeguards Centuries of Artistic Legacy
A new sculpture repository has opened in Dresden’s Großer Garten. The facility will protect and display the park’s valuable collection of historical news. Visitors can now view the pieces through a large north-facing window wall.
The repository spans 280 square meters and can hold up to 130 sculptures, plaster casts, and fragments. Among the stored works are original marble pieces by 17th- and 18th-century Italian sculptors Antonio Corradini and Pietro Balestra.
Funded entirely by the Saxon state budget, the project cost €2.2 million. While not regularly open to the public, guided tours will be available for special occasions or by request. These visits will be organised by Schlösserland Sachsen.
The new facility ensures the long-term preservation of the Großer Garten’s sculptural news. Guided access will allow visitors to experience the collection in a controlled environment. The repository’s design also lets people view the works from outside through the large window wall.
