DOLE tightens fireworks safety rules ahead of holiday rush

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a new directive to strengthen safety in the pyrotechnics industry ahead of the holiday season. Labor Advisory No. 18, released on 28 November 2025, orders all regional directors to monitor compliance with occupational safety and health (OSH) standards. The move comes as production and sales of fireworks typically rise during festive celebrations in the Philippines.

DOLE has instructed its field personnel to work closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and local government units (LGUs). The coordination aims to enforce safety measures across pyrotechnics establishments. One of the regional directors tasked with oversight is Sixto Rodriguez Jr., who leads DOLE Region 6.

The new directive reinforces workplace safety for thousands of workers in the pyrotechnics sector. Regional offices, including those under directors like Rodriguez Jr., will conduct checks to ensure compliance with OSH rules. The combined efforts of DOLE, BFP, PNP, and LGUs aim to minimise hazards as demand for fireworks peaks in the coming weeks.
