Discover 'Frames of Legacy': A Pop-Up Animation Memorabilia Exhibition
Jim Simpson and Laurie Dichiara, avid collectors of animation and entertainment memorabilia for 25 years, are sharing their passion with the public. Their non-profit, Walts Secret Closet Inc., is presenting 'Frames of Legacy', a pop-up exhibition at the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg from Friday to Saturday. The exhibition features around 75 pieces, offering a glimpse into the world of hand-drawn animation.
The exhibition, 'Frames of Legacy', showcases a diverse range of items, including animation cels, model sheets, scripts, and movie props. While the specific artists or persons represented are not listed, the exhibit leans heavily on Disney, with pieces from other brands also on display. One of Dichiara's favorite pieces is an original photo of Margaret Carey, who served as the studio-reference model for Tinker Bell.
Simpson and Dichiara have amassed around 500 pieces in their collection. They've founded the non-profit Walts Secret Closet Inc. to share their collection with the public. Their goal is to continue holding pop-up exhibitions until they can open their own permanent museum space. Simpson hopes that the collection helps inform the current generation about the skills and artistry involved in hand-drawn animation.
