Dhaka’s *The Other Voice* Showcases 35 Women Artists Redefining Bangladeshi Art
A 25-day group art exhibition titled The Other Voice is now open at the Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The show features works by 35 contemporary women artists from Bangladesh, exploring themes tied to women’s experiences and societal shifts. Organised by Bengal Shilpalay, the event is part of the broader cultural festival Prane Ano Gaan.
The exhibition opened on December 24 and will run until January 17. It brings together established names like Ivy Zaman, Farida Zaman, and Tayeba Begum Lipi alongside emerging talents such as Antora Azad and Jinnatun Jannat Moon. Their artworks reflect the changing socio-political landscape of Bangladesh since the early 2000s.
Curated by Bengal Shilpalay—a space founded by the late artist Zainul Abedin—the show highlights how women artists have shaped technical and thematic directions in Bangladeshi art. The pieces on display address diverse issues, with a strong focus on women’s perspectives and self-organised creative movements. Visitors can view the collection at the Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall on Road 7 in Dhanmondi. The event underscores the growing influence of female artists in redefining contemporary art practices in the country.
The exhibition closes on January 17, offering a final chance to see the contributions of these 35 artists. Their works provide a visual narrative of Bangladesh’s evolving cultural and political conversations. The show also marks a key moment in the ongoing Prane Ano Gaan festival.
