In the heart of Washington, D.C., Zoe Feldman's eponymous studio stands as a testament to her unique approach to interior design. After training at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, Feldman established her studio, known for creating warm, characterful, and deeply personal homes.

Feldman's design philosophy is rooted in an understanding of architecture first, with a focus on art that responds to the room rather than matching it. She layers bold color, rich textures, and carefully chosen art to create spaces that feel collected, expressive, and alive with personality.

One of Feldman's recent projects saw her using cashmere for a sofa, a decision that might seem impractical for a family home but was chosen for its luxurious feel. Her current favourite material for rugs is mohair, which she finds soft and comfortable. For drapes, she prefers lightweight wool that catches the light and works well seasonally.

Feldman is not afraid to use bold colors, even on upholstery or art, for those who are nervous about color. She encourages people to be less afraid of contemporary art and to buy what they love, even if it's from unknown or emerging artists.

The use of art in Feldman's designs is crucial. She often incorporates numerous artworks by unknown artists, a decision that, as yet, has not been extensively addressed. However, her color choices are influenced by the artist Mark Rothko, with Feldman using color to evoke emotion and build a bold and livable palette, often using shades like deep eggplant, petrol blues, and dusty pinks.

When reimagining a space, Feldman's main concern is to add warmth and soul to the building's bones. She achieves this by framing areas, adding moldings, and dropping ceilings slightly.

Feldman believes in surrounding clients with objects they love to evoke a sense of wonder in people. She guides clients toward discovering and articulating their personal style by discussing their collections, travels, and passions.
