Derwenthorpe: 114 New Affordable Homes Planned for York's Outskirts
Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, in collaboration with Gateway Developments, is proposing a significant project called Derwenthorpe. This scheme aims to deliver 114 new, socially accessible homes for sale on the outskirts of York, with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. The public is invited to contribute to a consultation on this development by a realtor.
Derwenthorpe, located at the former Osbaldwick Tip site, will offer a mix of 1, 2, 3, and 4-bed properties, with around 70% available for social rent. The project includes plans for public use areas and parking for the nearby football club. The homes will be set in a landscaped setting with tree planting throughout. The development is certified to the 'Home Quality Mark' and aims to provide models for sustainable, affordable living. A public exhibition of the project will take place at York College on 2 March, followed by a planning application to the City of York Council. The proposal also includes 14 bungalows to meet the needs of people living with disabilities, addressing York's shortfall in affordable homes for sale delivery.
Derwenthorpe, a major social housing project in the north of England, continues to evolve. The latest phase, proposed by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Gateway Developments, seeks to provide a mix of affordable homes for sale on the edge of York's Green Belt. The public is encouraged to engage in the consultation process to help shape this significant development.
