Dertour bans captive marine animal attractions by late 2025
German travel giant Dertour has announced a significant shift in its policies, aligning with global animal welfare standards set by the British travel association ABTA. Effective November 2025, the company will no longer offer attractions featuring marine animals held in captivity, including popular destinations like SeaWorld in Orlando and Loro Parque in Tenerife.
Dertour's decision is driven by a commitment to protect the welfare of whales, dolphins, and other marine animals, as well as promoting responsible tourism. The company plans to focus on ethical alternatives such as responsible whale and dolphin watching in the wild and supporting conservation projects. This move aims to eliminate dolphin swimming activities and shows that force marine animals to perform unnatural behaviours.
Dertour's policy change will come into effect in November 2025, giving the industry and tourists time to adapt. The company's decision is a step forward in prioritising animal welfare and responsible tourism.
