Debating Points: Is the Summer of 2025 Authentic or Counterfeit?

Summer has arrived in full bloom across Thuringia, bringing with it the usual array of vibrant flowers and warm temperatures. However, for some residents like Sibylle Goebel and Fabian Klaus, the summer of 2025 has been less than ideal.

The average summer temperatures in Thuringia typically range between 23°C and 25°C (73°F to 77°F) in July and August. This year, temperatures have been within these norms, with maximums reaching the high 20s °C, consistent with previous averages. Despite the warm weather, the overall summer 2025 weather in Thuringia seems to be within usual ranges, showing warm summer conditions and typical rainfall patterns without marked deviations.

However, the rainfall has been more abundant than usual, with precipitation peaking in August, as it typically does. This year, monthly rainfall is expected to be around 70-80 mm, reflecting a moderate rainfall climate. The increased rainfall has provided nature with plenty of water, but it has also led to some challenges for certain plants, such as lavender, rosemary, and sage, which don't thrive in humid conditions and may react with mold and root rot.

Sibylle Goebel, a Thuringian resident, has more than one reason for enjoying the summer weather. She associates summer with 30 degrees in the shade, beach, and pleasant water temperatures. However, she has expressed her discontent with the current weather, predicting that she will be fed up with this summer by 2025. Fellow resident Fabian Klaus shares her sentiment, unable to find anything good about this summer and expressing his annoyance with the summer weather.

The current weather has also impacted the political landscape in Thuringia. The Thuringian State Parliament is currently on a long summer break, and the Bavarian state leader, who Sibylle Goebel blames for the state of the Thuringian summer holidays, is also on summer holidays. Interestingly, the Bavarians start their summer holidays later than Thuringians.

Looking ahead, there will be no rain at least until Thursday. This could provide a reprieve for residents and plants alike, offering a chance for the weather to improve and for Sibylle Goebel and Fabian Klaus to find some enjoyment in the remaining days of summer.
